[/x_text][x_text class=“justify-text “ style=“padding-top:25px;“][dropcap]I[/dropcap]t is not only because of the good quality clothes, it is as well the spirit of the brand that convinced me. «Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis» thats Patagonia’s Mission Statement. And I am proud and thankful to be a part of it. As a freeride and backcountry guide I spend around 150 days per year out in the mountains. Reason enough for me to choose the best product to keep me warm and dry on cold powder days and long splitboard missions. A couple of big dumps followed by rain and very strong winds left a very unstable snow pack and lots of wind drifted snow. Not really the best preconditions to ride high and steep faces. Nevertheless the urge to find powder is still very alive. So how to evaluate the danger and be sure to come home to your beloved ones?

No snow? Just grab your splitboard

«We all love winters with lots of snow and deep powder days. But what do you do if that white stuff won’t come down as you want it?»

[/x_text][x_text class=“justify-text „]You grab your Splitboard and go for the snow. This time our mission was the «Verborgenes Kar» a hike that starts at the top of Kapall in St.Anton/Arlberg. It is a huge north facing bowl, which is very wind and sun protected. Sounds promising to find still some powder. After an impressive hike through a steep couloir, which is only accessible with safe conditions, we reached the top of our run and got ready to drop in. The descent was amazing, with perfect settled powder. We all enjoyed our wide open turns all the way down. So even it doesn’t look promising at all, better look twice, cause there is always some good snow around.[/x_text][/x_column][x_column bg_color=““ type=“1/3″ style=“padding: 50px 0px 0px 0px; „][x_share title=“ “ facebook=“true“ twitter=“true“ google_plus=“false“ linkedin=“false“ pinterest=“true“ reddit=“false“ email=“true“][x_text class=“left-text “ style=“padding-bottom:25px;“]

Linecamp St.Anton, 20. – 21.Dec 2014

The snow cover in St.Anton/Arlberg wasn’t really promising to find any proper face to ride on. But we relied on the snowreport which forecasted 20-30cms of snow for the weekend. On Saturday morning the happy campers and the 2 coaches Flo Orley and me found great snow conditions on the mountain, ideal to get the first powderturns of the season done and carry out the 2014 Linecamp. Besides having fun and riding powder the main focus of the linecamp is to pass on our knowledge as professional freeriders to the young and hungry newcomers. From riding techniques to safety training to the right line choise in theory and on the mountain theres a lot of content in one weekend.

Sunday was a picture perfect powderday with bluebird and 20-30cms of fresh powder. The goal of the day was to ride a proper face and simulate a competition scenario. We found a little but very diverse face with lots of possibilities to choose your own line. The campers went crazy on the face and a great session with great riding action went down. Its always so cool to see the progression of the youth and help them to become smart freerider and raise their confident level. Looking forward to next year.[/x_text][/x_column][x_column bg_color=““ type=“1/3″ class=“left-text “ style=“padding: 50px 0px 0px 0px; „][x_share title=“ “ facebook=“true“ twitter=“true“ google_plus=“false“ linkedin=“false“ pinterest=“true“ reddit=“false“ email=“true“][x_image type=“none“ src=“http://www.intothewhite.at/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/habuayaltvlrqmmhy4-zw1ulyehantkpt8t-ftuzvi0-e1442352766454.png“ alt=“Placeholder“ link=“true“ href=“www.freeridecamps.at“ title=““ target=““ info=“none“ info_place=“top“ info_trigger=“hover“ info_content=““][x_text class=“left-text “ style=“padding-bottom:25px;“]

The entire film was shot at the Arlberg, Austria and had no external funding or sponsorship. Basically do it yourself at its best. The biggest part of the work defenitely had our producer/filmer/editor/sound designer Elmar Strotmann which I want to give big probs at this point. By Fair Means shows freeriding in our home resort the arlberg and the story behind how to approach these big lines as well as all the ups and downs that come with it.
